Tactical combat is a resolution method of space combat where both players directly control the players on the battlefield.

- As with other tactical games, positioning is everything. Different formations are available and affect the firepower and effectiveness of the ship.
- Combined arms is the name of the game. While larger ships can certainly carry a plethora of different weapons, specialized ships used together are much more than the sum of their parts, allowing, for example, a dedicated point-defense frigate to provide protection from missiles, torpedoes, and strike craft for larger ships dedicated to fighting other ships or bombarding stationary targets.
