Galaxy

From Master of Orion Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

The Galaxy in Master of Orion is the setting of the fight for domination between the major civilizations inhabiting it.

Generation[edit | edit source]

  • The new galaxy can be configured by selecting a specific Big Bang seed (allowing for replaying galaxies or sharing them with others), the age of the galaxy (see below), and of course, the number of opponents and their make up.

Galaxy size[edit | edit source]

Main article: Galaxy size

Galaxy size determines how many star systems are in the game. In the first two games, this was a fixed number. The third introduced different galaxy shapes and made the number of stars random, so the value given is an approximation of how many can be expected. For Master of Orion: Conquer the Stars, each galaxy size/shape combination has a minimum and a maximum number of stars.

Game Small Medium Large Huge
Master of Orion 24 48 70 108
Master of Orion II: Battle at Antares 20 36 54 72
Master of Orion 3 Cluster ~50 ~100 ~175 ~250
Two-Arm ——— ——— ~150 ———
Three-Arm ——— ——— ~200 ~250
Master of Orion: Conquer the Stars Circle 32-35 42-45 70-75 120-125
Spiral ——— 47-61 75-100 100-100
Cluster ——— 49-70 81-108 ———

In MOOCTS, the galaxy size also determines how many major and minor civilizations exist in the galaxy, how many space monsters are found, and how many wormholes are present.

Galaxy Shape Small Medium Large Huge
Major Minor Monster Wormhole Major Minor Monster Wormhole Major Minor Monster Wormhole Major Minor Monster Wormhole
Circle 4/5 2 2 1-1 6/7 3 3 1-2 7/9 4 5 2-2 9/9 6 7 3-4
Spiral ——— 6/6 3 3 0-0 8/8 4 5 0-0 8/8 4 7 0-0
Cluster ——— 4/7 4 4 0-0 6/9 6 7 0-0 ———
Major
How many major civilizations are present, player included. The first value corresponds to the "recommended" setting which is the default value set when choosing this shape/size combination. The second value is the maximum that can be set. While the full game could support 14 civilizations in the galaxy, the interface is designed for a maximum of 9.
Minor
How many independent civilizations are present. Since there are nine independent civilizations, this is the maximum possible value.
Monster
How many systems will have a space monster at game start.
Wormhole
How many wormhole connections are present. Each wormhole connection requires two "stars", that serve as entries and exits.

All galaxy settings can be modded in ModelledGalaxyData.yaml.

Galaxy age[edit | edit source]
