Unification is one of the available governments in Master of Orion II.

It is considered a strong government and costs 6 race picks.

Background[ | ]

The Unification form of government is available to those scant few races that can exist harmoniously together without jealousy, envy, or concern for individual advancement. Each individual works for the good of the community rather than the self. The analogy is often made between a Unified government and a colony of bees. Though correct in some ways, this is a misleading comparison. Unified populations are neither mindless nor uncreative; some unknown characteristic (many have suggested genetic uniformity) simply allows them to forego competition with one another.

Effects[ | ]

  • +15% to spy defense.
  • Unified colonies do not have morale. They instead receive a flat 50% bonus to production and agriculture.
  • 20 turns to assimilate a unit of population.
  • Unified races do not have a capitol nor do they need one.

Advanced government[ | ]

Upon unlocking the advanced government technology, a unified empire becomes a Galactic Unification:

  • +100% to production and agriculture.
  • 15 turns to assimilate a unit of population.

Strategy[ | ]

  • A great government for an advanced player. By eliminating the need to worry about morale, you can redirect production and research elsewhere, ignoring all morale buildings. Getting the upgrade that doubles your production and farming is significantly cheaper than the sum of RP you need to maintain morale under other forms of government.
  • Problems with assimilation are caused by societal differences. The alien management center definitely helps.
